Privacy as assignment 5

As our fifth assignment for the class we must write about privacy and summarize what we learned with the lectures and videos. Also, what we found out our browsers store about and our searches.

The first lecture comes from “El Pais” basically here the information given is about how Facebook and Twitter store nonpublic information like your history of browsing and your navigation patterns. Also, how they predict our profiles just with information of the people in our contacts, without any other information.

The next one comes from the New York times and basically comes along with a video that explains how you can download your data that allows people to see and take out all the information they’ve put into Facebook.

The other link we got assigned was a link that showed everything Facebook and google stores about your browsing and navigation. Few of the things I found out was that they store your browsing list. For example, I found that they knew I searched on YouTube some videos for a class and some new music Bad Bunny had just gotten out. They also have an advertising profile where to my surprise, they had that I had pets and liked to play sports, specifically Basketball and Volleyball. They also had a list of the site I searched frequently.

Next stop were the videos, Basically the talked about things that happened with your information and where they went or got store. One example is government servers, criminal servers and the servers that the social media uses. They also gave tips on how to protect your privacy, for example, reading the terms, using browsing extensions that help with the privacy settings. One also explained how police wanted to use facial recognition to fight crime, but people found that as privacy invasion.

Lastly, I downloaded a browser extension that helped me see what sites where looking at my information. For my surprise Facebook and Twitter had none, but when I entered the school websites, the numbers went up to 21, which meant that some servers like YouTube and school websites where checking to see what I searched up.
